From the level of control and visibility presented by a logistics operation with its integrated links, it is possible to optimize the levels of services offered to customers, thanks to the flexibility and responsiveness that is achieved by aligning the various areas and processes under the same objective.

Interview to Alejandro Calvo, CEO of Group All In, Énfasis Logística Magazine.

Which are the logistic links that form an international trade operation?

Currently, logistics is a complex and integral process, in which transport plays a fundamental role favored by a better infrastructure and new technologies. In this way, an international trade operation includes all the activities that involve the flow of materials and information. From our company we cover, with our own resources, the integral services of logistic operator, deposit and consolidation of merchandise, customs agent, operations in port, national and international multimodal transport with a very complete team of professionals and the latest technological tools. Since, an international trade operation involves planning, implementing and controlling the flow and storage of goods together with all related information, from the point of origin to the point of destination.

How would you define the concept of integration between these processes?

For companies, having a well-designed transport and logistics system is a key element, we think that the success of operations relies on applying a customized logistics with a global vision and our concept of integration heads in that way. We handle all the aforementioned processes, here coordination and efficiency is crucial. In short, our concept of integration is to manage all the elements so that each links works optimally, giving added value to the customer.

Which do you consider the most critical or demanding points in terms of performing these operations?

We are trained and know-how that allows us to efficiently carry out all the points of the logistics chain. Of course, in each of the processes there are controllable variables like others that are not. Regarding the latter, we focus so that, should a critical situation occur, the impact is as small as possible, with immediate solutions to complete the operation in a successful way.

What are the benefits that are generated with an integrated logistics schema?

First of all and from our place, is to offer the solution of logistical problems that may arise through a single interlocutor. We efficiently manage the effort of people who are involved achieving better results.  As we have more control, we can decrease the losses. We efficiently manage the efforts of the people involved, we achieve better results, we optimize resources, we see all the details, handling and response times, information control and follow-up. It is very important that companies have the logistics required to satisfy their different areas, seeking to increase productivity. For this, they must be in the hands of experts who offer this integral service.

What is the role of information technology (IT)?

Technology plays a key role in the development of current operations since it allows us to manage the information of the entire logistics chain in an efficiently and controlled way. Providing the client, on one hand, “updated status” of each movement and, on the other, exactly knowing their needs. In short, the appropriate use of technology allows greater accuracy and, consequently, a greater result.

What is the level of training and commitment required for the human resources that carry out these processes?

The professional must be very well trained and also have personal interest to be updated constantly; that is, to be in tune with the latest changes and enough flexibility to apply them to their field of action. Logistical integration can have a beginning but never an end, it is a constant learning where the operation of each piece is strategic, working in harmony with the rest.

Do you carry out operations with different modes of transport?

Of course, our strength lies in offering the customer the best intermodal option, where times and costs are the variables that can define the closing of an operation. That’s why, we work from each of the links where we have participation. Which implies going beyond transport, since we integrate it with all our services (customs, distribution, preparation of the merchandise, deposit, traceability, routing, port processing, etc.). For example, one of our clients, situated in the Industrial Park of San Luis, requires national distribution but also exports on a large scale to many destinations; so we are located, with our own office, in their factory to develop an integral logistics, from the beginning to the end of each operation.

What kind of products operate and which are the most demanding in terms of their operational requirements?

Normally we operate with wine, must, supplies for wineries, machinery, preserved food, diapers, containers, solar panels, dry and refrigerated foods, among others. In general, import operations generate greater operational demands, due to the processes and previous coordination that must be carried out before entering any product into our national territory, either temporarily or permanently.
